Protected plant species
Some of the plant species are widespread and common in Slovenia, while others are rare and endangered. The following are protected together with internationally protected plant species by the Decree on protected wild plant species. These species are subject of special protection regimes that determines, among other things, what counts as deliberate destruction or damage of plant specimens, such as plucking and taking them from the wild.
To this date, more than 40 different protected plant species have been evidented in Goričko Nature Park. Some of them, such as the common sundew (Drosera rotundifolia), are extremely rare. Other are still quite abundant. Among these are green-winged orchid, different species of pink (Dianthus spp.), common snowdrop (Galanthus nivalis), snowflake (Leucojum vernum), lily-of-the-valley (Convallaria majalis) and Cyclamen purpurascens.
