The Butterfly Theme Trail in Motvarjevci winds through the well-preserved wet meadows of the Goričko Nature Park. These vibrant meadows are an integral part of the park’s cultural heritage, shaped by human activity over time. As farming practices change, so does the landscape. More and more meadows are being converted into fields, leading to a loss of the rich biodiversity that defines these areas. However, in Motvarjevci, the meadows continue to thrive, bursting into colorful bloom in the spring months and captivating visitors with their beauty. Many animal species, including rare and protected ones, still find refuge in these meadows.

Along the trail, visitors can learn about the most typical plant and butterfly species. Do you know how the marsh fritillary butterfly is connected to the devils-bit scabious plant? Information boards and engaging challenges reveal the intricate relationship between these two species and highlight the interconnectedness of all life in the meadows and nature as a whole.

A special resting spot among the meadows invites visitors to pause, relax, and experience nature with all their senses.

The content on the information boards is available in Slovene and Hungarian. Visitors with visual impairments can access the content via QR codes, which lead visitors to content in English as well. A tactile information point offers a touch board that illustrates the life cycle of the scarce large blue butterfly.

As you explore the trail, keep an eye out for a red flat bark beetle waiting for you in the shade of the trees. Do you know this beetle? Visit the Butterfly Theme Trail in Motvarjevci to discover this fascinating insect and uncover many other captivating stories about the lives of animals and plants.
